I know I'm coming in late and what not, but in BG there's actually an experience cap for all classes and races at 89000 (with the expansion it's raised to 161000).
So class/race combination doesn't really matter in this game.

In BG2 they raised the exp cap even more and with the expansion I believe the level cap is 40 no matter what class you play as (race doesn't matter iirc).

I wanted to see what the original game was like, as I have never played it all the way through. I wasn't sure what additional features or "upgrades" BGT or TuTu (the two mods that I know of that merge BG and BG2) included and how much work it would be to deactivate them. I don't mind the resolution so much, though I do find some aspects of the BG UI annoying.

Why did you decide against community mods? There is one that lets you play BG1 in the BG2 engine. Which, more or less, means higher resolution and a better GUI. That alone is worth it. :D

Ah, Baldur's Gate. The game that got me interested in roleplaying. It's been a long time since I played, mainly because BG2 doesn't play nice with a dual processor G5.

I'll be following this story with interest.
