Nerath Empire

The human empire of Nerath rose from discord within another empire. A contingent of humans from Bael Turath, an empire on another continent, refused to participate in the infernal pacts made by their leaders and fled across the ocean more than four centuries ago. Nerath ruled the southern portion of the continent until its collapse a century ago. The empire's only official presence in the Nentir Vale, a garrison of legionnaires stationed at a keep just over a mile north of Winterhaven, was abandoned two decades later.
